In Our Neighborhood

SPD Bloggers

A walk-and-jog crew that picks up trash along the way. Good for both the body and the neighborhood.

Mission Nursing Home

Volunteers help with the library, tend the garden beds, and assemble gift bags for residents and staff throughout the year.

Interfaith Outreach

There are a number of ways you can serve this wonderful nonprofit: join a food shopping team on the third Thursday of each month, staff donation drives and pop-up events, or simply drop food shelf donations at any SPD entrance.

School District Partnerships

We work alongside local school social workers to get groceries, winter gear, school supplies, and early learning essentials to families in need. Volunteers shop, gather, and deliver.

Giving Garden

Volunteers tend garden boxes on SPD’s grounds, with all produce donated to IOCP. Members are also encouraged to donate from their home gardens.

In the City

Community Bridge at Messiah Lutheran Church

Messiah Lutheran Church sits in the Phillips neighborhood in South Minneapolis. Together, we support a food pantry – open on the 2nd Friday and 4th Saturday of each month — along with school supplies, holiday food baskets at Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter, and a Care and Prayer Holiday Ministry.

3,000 Acts of Kindness

We help this organization collect coats, boots, hats and mittens, serve at an annual ministry event, and serve throughout the year at their warehouse.

Sharing and Caring Hands

Each Easter, we put together baskets for shelter residents at Sharing and Caring Hands’ shelter.

Our Saviour’s Housing

Volunteers make sandwiches, repackage laundry soap, and gather diaper donations for Our Saviour’s residents.

Habitat for Humanity

Several times a year, our members volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, bringing tools and time to help build affordable housing in the community.

Around the World

Serving beyond our city

St. Philip the Deacon has a longstanding commitment to reach out in Christian love to people around the globe. Whenever we raise money for our own ministries, we always designate a portion of those resources to benefit congregations and ministry efforts in other parts of the world.

Over the years — largely through our three-year appeals — St. Philip the Deacon has helped  build a cyclone-proof church in Madagascar, a medical facility in Tanzania, a school dormitory in India, and clean water infrastructure in Malawi. The congregation has funded micro-loans for young women entrepreneurs, sent shoes to children in Haiti so they could attend school, and partnered with Feed My Starving Children to get food where it’s needed.
