Lenten Theme: 40 Days of Decrease
What are you giving up for Lent? Chocolate? Designer coffee? Social media? Does this kind of fasting leave you feeling spiritually renewed? Does
it truly prepare you to celebrate the joy of Easter?
Our Lenten theme this year is 40 Days of Decrease, and we will invite you to consider a different kind of fasting. We will be following the book, 40 Days of Decrease, by Alicia Britt Chole, which emphasizes a different type of fast. The book guides readers through a study of Jesus’ uncommon and uncomfortable call to abandon the world’s illusions, embrace His kingdom’s reality, and journey cross-ward and beyond. You can purchase your copy of 40 Days of Decrease for $10 at the hospitality desk in the atrium.
Join us for five Wednesdays in Lent for a soup supper, followed by worship, during which we will consider some of the fasting ideas suggested in the book:
March 4—Lent as Project (Matthew 4:1-11)
March 11—Collecting Praise (Psalm 115:1)
March 18—Avoidance (Psalm 139)
March 25—Regret (Philippians 3:13 and Isaiah 43:18-19)
April 1—Sound (I Kings 19:11-13a)
Join us each Wednesday evening in Lent for:
5:30 p.m. — Soup Supper
7 p.m. — Lenten Worship
