This fall SPD members can sign up for four different classes led by our pastors. These classes offer opportunities to explore our faith in different ways—through activity and discussion—that we may not have considered before. Please sign up at spdlc.org/register for these special courses:
Sawdust and Soul—Tuesdays, Sept. 10, 17 and 24, 6–9 p.m.
Sit around the fire and engage in conversation and carving. Learn flat plane figure carving from master woodcarver Jock Holmen and carve your own basic nativity scene. No experience necessary. Leader: Pastor Mark Schmid
Understanding Your Grief—Wednesdays, Oct. 2–Dec. 11, 9:30–11 a.m.
This series will help you understand the normal and necessary journey we call grief. We will study Dr. Alan Wolfelt’s book and workbook, Understanding Your Grief. Leader: Pastor Valerie Strand Patterson
Faith and Science: Another Look—Tuesdays, Oct. 22–Nov. 5 at 6:30 p.m.
One of the perennial assumptions about our faith is that Christianity stands in opposition to science. Get a new perspective on the real relationship between faith and science. Leader: Pastor Tim Westermeyer
Mystery of the Incarnation—Tuesdays, Dec. 3 and 10 at 6:30 p.m.
This series explores the incarnation (God with us; God made flesh in Jesus) in the birth narratives and through images as we seek to journey through the Advent season. Leader: Pastor Cheryl Mathison
